About GMT

"Glasgow Music Theatre is fast attaining a worthy reputation

as highly skilled and teeming with talent" - The Skinny

Glasgow Music Theatre was created in 2009 by a group of friends working in the arts industry who saw a gap in the market for an amateur production company that would stage shows not often performed because of cast size or difficulty. They threw out the am-dram rule book and adopted a way of working that allowed creative freedom to develop original concepts from design through to choreography. From UV puppetry in Little Shop Of Horrors to training up 19 triple-threat principals for A Chorus Line, GMT has risen to the challenge of finding new ways to make amateur theatre and has performed in the Ramshorn, Eastwood Park Theatre, The SPACE, Scottish Youth Theatre and was the first company to perform in the new Websters theatre at Kelvinbridge. Recently, GMT has performed an outdoor showcase at the West End Festival, cabarets at the Classic Grand and The Ferry and was featured in Hogmanay Live on BBC One Scotland at New Year.

  • No membership fees

  • No audition fees

  • No compulsory ticket sales

GMT doesn't have membership. Each production has a cast and production team assembled from scratch and open auditions are held for each show. No one in the company gets paid, or pays to join. GMT works towards developing long-term technique in the company and offers one-to-one training as part of the rehearsal process. The supportive environment created in rehearsals means people feel part of the ensemble whether they're on stage for 2 minutes or 2 hours. And that extends to our offstage activity too. Everyone is encouraged to contribute to how the company is run and people with amateur or professional skills get a chance to use them either by joining a production team or getting involved in design, marketing, project management, photography, filming and blogging. We also have a partner dance school with studios in the West End and City Centre – Dance Glasgow. So if you’re interested in joining us, come along to a class. We’d love to see you there.
